Greetings:
As a matter of public safety and in the interest of responding to all
emergencies that occur in Truro, we would like to offer this friendly
reminder that having roads clear of any obstructions, such as brush,
vegetation and the like will enhance our ability to respond to an
emergency
and allow us access for large apparatus, such as ambulances and fire
trucks.
At your earliest opportunity, please check to see your driveway and/or
road
complies with the Town of Truro bylaw. We have cited the part of the
current
Town of Truro bylaw below for your reference. The full bylaw and
requirements are located on the Town of Truro Web Site at
www.truro-ma.gov
1-9-13 Public Safety Clearing Guidelines.
Certain sections of roadways and driveways may require custom standards
for
public safety. These sections include, but are not limited to:
intersections, sharp corners, turn-a-rounds, and areas near water sources.
Standards for these areas will be identified by the Fire Chief, Police
Chief
and the DPW Director or their designees on a case by case basis. To allow
for the safe passage of fire/safety equipment, guidelines for clearing
vegetation along fire roads, dirt roads, private ways (collectively
hereinafter called "roadways") and driveways in excess of fifty (50) feet
in
length shall be as follows:
1-9-13-1 Roadways and driveways shall not be less than eight (8)
feet wide.
1-9-13-2 Brush, shrubs, trees, branches, woody vegetation and other
obstructions will be removed from the rectangular area bordered by the
imaginary lines Truro General Bylaws - April 2007 Page 7 no less than
three
(3) feet horizontally from both sides of the roadway or driveway and no
less
than fourteen (14) feet vertically from the road level.
1-9-13-3 Certain sections of roadways and driveways may require
custom
standards. These sections include, but are not limited to: intersections,
sharp corners, turn-a-rounds, and areas near water sources. Standards for
these areas will be identified by the Fire Chief or his designee on a case
by case basis.
If you have any questions about house numbers, please feel free to contact
the police department or fire department for more information.
Your efforts will help public safety officials find your property faster
so
that we can do our job better for you.
Very Truly Yours,
John J Lundborn
