AECOM and Robert B. Our will recommence construction of the Phase 3 sewer project immediately after Labor Day, on September 6, 2011.
The crews will begin working on Route 6A between Snail Road and the Truro town line. This work must be completed by mid-November as the State will not allow construction activities on Route 6A during the winter months. It should also be noted that NSTAR is also scheduled to be working in this same area this fall as part of a separate project to install new underground electrical cables between Mount Gilboa and Snail Road.
Starting on or about Tuesday, September 6, 2011 one crew will begin replacing water services between Snail Road and Mayflower Avenue. A second crew will begin constructing the Commodore Avenue wastewater pump station. This pump station will be located at the intersection of Commodore Ave. and Route 6A.
Similar to the work that occurred last season, a large amount of dewatering will be required to install the pump station and associated gravity sewers. The water pumped during these dewatering activities is clean groundwater. Due to the large volume of water anticipated, this water will need to be pumped and discharged to the harbor. This work will be closely monitored and coordinated with the Provincetown Conservation Commission to ensure that the harbor, the environment and nearby residents are not adversely impacted by this temporary activity.
In general, construction activities will occur Monday through Friday, ~ 7:00 am to ~ 4:00 pm. However, due to the large amount of dewatering required, there may be times when the dewatering pumps will have to be operated 24 hours per day. As was done last spring, additional measures will be taken to try and reduce the sound levels coming from these pumps. It is understood that this temporary noise impact will be a nuisance to some residents. Please know that the Town is sympathetic to all who will be inconvenienced.
Please note that during construction it will be necessary to temporarily close sections of Route 6A between Snail Road and the Truro town line to traffic. Due to the limited number of side streets with access to Route 6 in this area, most traffic will need to be detoured approximately 3 miles around this area via Snail Road and Stotts Crossing in Truro. Police officers and detour signs will be posted during this time. It is not anticipated that this detour will be required 24/7. Each night and weekend, this section of Route 6A will be reopened to traffic.
As the gravity sewer installation progresses in Route 6A, crews will begin installing sewers to the surrounding neighborhoods and disruptions to the side streets will occur. Most of the side streets in the Beach Point area are narrow. As a result, residents should expect delays and parking restrictions where construction work is occurring.
Frequent updates on where construction activities will be occurring and progress updates will be provided in the Banner and on the Town’s web site (www.provincetown-ma.gov). If you have questions, please call the Sewer Team at (508) 487-7060 or email Sherry Prada who is the Department of Public Works Administrative Assistant at sprada@provincetown-ma.gov.
Thank you for your cooperation during this important construction project.
